Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi Ad Fizzles
From the Fyre Festival fiasco to her infamous Pepsi ad… Kendall Jenner is the reigning queen of influencer fails. Pepsi made a bad move when they featured the supermodel in their 2017 commercial – in which she left a photo shoot to join a Black Lives Matter protest, and diffused tension by handing an officer a Pepsi. Did you think soda was the cure for social injustice? Neither did anybody else.
People were (rightfully) outraged – accusing Pepsi and Jenner of appropriating a national protest movement and trivializing issues faced by African Americans. Pepsi pulled the ad and made a public apology – and Jenner even shed a few crocodile tears over it on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” – but the damage was done. How badly did Kendall Jenner mess up? Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter Bernice said it best in a tweet.
